UnitedHealth Group announced earlier this week that it would match up to $100,000 of employee donations made to the Global Impact Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund.

The physician -- Jason B. Litten, MD, brother of local AmeriHealth New Jersey executive Brian Litten -- is on route to Haiti, supported by funds provided by AmeriHealth New Jersey for airfare and essential materials such as a sleeping bag, insect repellent, mosquito tents and other items.

"We are working closely with humanitarian aid agencies to help the people of Haiti obtain access to critical products needed in the provision of medical care," said Christopher B. Begley, chairman and chief executive officer. "The Hospira family expresses deep sympathy to all of the victims of this tragedy, and we will continue to work in the coming weeks and months to provide health and wellness to this devastated region."

Relief workers have arrived from dozens of countries. Communication has been a problem. The Deaf Welcome Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax exempt public charity, wants to provide a communication platform for Haitian survivors to reach family and friends to let them know they are safe and communicate with foreign relief workers. The DWF has partnered with translation services to provide access through multilingual certified interpreters of Haitian Creole, Haitian Sign Language, English, French, German, Spanish, American Sign Language, as well as over 150 other languages in the Deaf Welcome Network.

The main goals of this announced expansion are to provide food, shelter, clothing and other needs to children from the Port-au-Prince area. 99.2 percent of voters said yes to Tamil Eelam in an impressive turn out of more than 90% of eligible Eezham Tamil voters for the referendum in Germany on Sunday. International Human Rights Association in Bremen conducted the referendum on the question of forming an independent and sovereign state of Tamil Eelam in the North and East of the island of Sri Lanka. 23,089 voters participated in the poll in 110 centres across the country and 22,904 of them said yes. 136 voters said no and 49 votes were invalid.
