482 Schemes of nine states approved for reclamation of 63556.49 ha. Water logged area

A component of reclamation of water logged areas under the command area development programme was introduced by the Ministry of Water Resources. So far 482 schemes of nine states namely Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerela, Maharashtra, Orissa and Uttar Pradesh have been approved for reclamation of 63556.49 ha. Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare – five years in service of veterans

The Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (ESW), functioning under the Ministry of Defence, completes five years of its existence next week. Set up on September 22, 2004, the department caters exclusively to the rehabilitation and welfare of about 21 lakh Ex-Servicemen (ESM) population and another five lakh ESM widows. Nearly 60,000 ESM are added to this huge number every year, largely due to perhaps the highest attrition rate in any organized sector among the Armed Forces in order to retain a youthful profile of the fighting forces, their primary task.

IAF Aircraft lands Successfully at Nyoma

In a significant move by the Indian Air Force, an AN-32 aircraft landed at Nyoma Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) in Eastern Ladakh at 0625 hrs today. Group Captain SC Chafekar touched down on the Nyoma airstrip located at an altitude of 13,300 feet with Air Marshal NAK Browne, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Air Command and Lieutenant General PC Bharadwaj, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command on board.

Railway revenue earnings up by 10.88 per cent during the period 1st – 10th September 2009

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period from 1st to 10th September 2009 were Rs. 2160.00 crore compared to Rs. 1948.08 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 10.88 per cent.

This is first of the Duronto’ class of non-stop superfast passenger carrying train, heralding a new era of rail travel in the country ensuring better speed, comfort and security for passengers. The fare of the ‘Duronto’ trains will include the cost of meals. Such trains are first of its kind in the history of Railways.

“Cows are looked after with great care” in India ashram where Julia Roberts will be shooting

Oscar winner Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman) will be shooting for “Eat, Pray, Love” in an ashram (hermitage) in India, starting September 20, which has a “gaushala” (cowshed) where “cows are looked after with great care”.

Roberts’ shooting venue Ashram Harimandir in Pataudi, about 60 kilometers from India’s capital Delhi, was founded in Kotjai (now in Pakistan) by ascetic Swami Amardev in 1920, which was moved to the current site in 1948. Coming from the same lineage, Swami Dharam Dev is the current head of the Ashram.

Community Radio Station to Start at Raipur

Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India has signed a Grant of Permission Agreement for establishing, maintaining and operating a Community Radio Station at Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Letter of Intent had been issued to the Institute after recommendations of Inter Ministerial Committee and seeking requisite clearances from various Ministries. The Community Radio Station is expected to be operational within three months as per the agreement. With this, the number of CRS will increase to 54 in the country.
